CREATIVITY needs a 'window'

Updated: Jun 21, 2023

The way I think about creativity and how I experience it is this sudden realisation, inspiration, passion, idea, and exciting process of getting something new out of my mind.

Although now, I am better at tapping into my creativity

Throughout my career experience, I sometimes suppressed creativity by jumping from task to task or multitasking and not taking proper breaks.

As a result of that, I couldn't activate the creative thinking needed for day-to-day responsibilities and new projects.

On the other hand, when I was on holiday or spending weekends hiking, new ideas were coming as overwhelming waves, but again I suppressed them as I felt guilty thinking about work.

All of that built a kind of pressure on my mind and body.

And as a lack of creativity was impacting my career growth and peace of mind, I needed to find a solution.

So, I have started coming to the office earlier to prepare for the day, having a slower morning, enjoying my first coffee, going through my schedule and making sure I have enough time for my priorities.

Also, I have started taking regular mindful 20 - 30 min walks.

During the activity, I have been paying attention to the environment, being aware of my breath, and intentionally releasing pressure from my mind and body.

While practising that, I noticed a difference in creative thinking, and ideas started to come more regularly and when I needed them.

Then during holidays or weekends, I dropped guilting myself that sometimes I think about work, and instead, I started recording new ideas or writing them down so then I could enjoy my time even more.

What I felt was a sense of relief, satisfaction and relaxation in my mind and body.

Although I am still learning how to improve and support my creativity flow

I know these:

💡 I need to OPEN ‘the window’ for creativity!

That window is as simple as a short coffee break or having a chat with a colleague and a CREATIVE BREAK, like taking time to admire nature or art and intentionally paying attention to these experiences.

💡 I need to be CONSISTENT with my creative breaks to sustain creative thinking.

💡 I need to prepare myself for CATCHING THE MOMENT of inspiration anytime on video, voice recording, or by writing ideas down even in my free time.

But the main takeaway from all my experiences with creativity is: finding and building CREATIVITY RHYTHM adapted to me and my lifestyle.

I am curious about your experience.
